Love One Another

John 13:34-35

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.

NIV

Jesus calls this command new, though love itself is ancient. The newness lies in the measure: "As I have loved you." Not as much as you feel capable. Not as much as they deserve. Not as much as is convenient. As I have loved you. Sacrificially. Patiently. When you were still far off. When you still stumble. This is the love that marks disciples, not perfect doctrine or impressive service. Love that chooses the other when choosing yourself would be easier. Who needs this love from you today?

Ponder This

Who in my life is difficult to love the way Jesus has loved me?

Today's Practice

Choose one person today. Love them in a way that costs you something.

Speak This Truth

I am marked by love. I will love as I have been loved.
